Today, one of the high school kid I tutor and I have talked a lot about French Painters and how Le Déjeuner sur l’Herbe (Luncheon on the Grass) by Edouard Manet a sandalous piece in the 1860’s when it was exposed at the Salon des Refusés (where paintings rejected from the official Paris Salon were exposed). And how Emile Zola defended staunchly defended it. I need to go to the Musée d’Orsay soon. There are so many museums I need to return to before I leave Paris!
A Day at the Museum: Masterpieces of Le Musée d’Orsay
I love museums. The whole experience of Art is somewhat organic and nothing can replace the sight of a exquisite painting in its shrine. The Musée d’Orsay is a former train station: it is huge and has a beautiful architecture. It seems like the ideal place to house paintings by Monet, Manet or Degas. I went lately and had a delightful moment there, I will return soon because one day at this museum is not enough.
