She's Got Game!
I saw The Hunger Games last Sunday and I could have reviewed it then, because I loved it and thought it was a fantastic movie and I knew it would be my choice for my monthly review “column”. I just thought I could want to watch it another time before I did. Eventually, I decided otherwise, because let’s be honest, I can’t afford to develop another sick obsession for...

Sweet Bird of Youth
There is nothing like a very good read in the sun. To me, it’s the closest thing to perfect pleasure. It is, the times when I don’t have a very skilled lover. And lately, Paris has been uncostumarily sunny for March. So I have taken the happy habit to laze in a park (the Jardin du Luxembourg) with a book before or between classes. After several re-readings of the Millenium...

Carmelized Pork and Noodles
I made this Carmelized Pork and Noodles for lunch today. My sister and I ate while watching the last two episodes of Pretty Little Liars. Fortunately, we were done before we finally discovered who A was, or we could have choked to our untimely deaths. At least, we’d have had a delicious last supper. And easy with that, you only need 1 tablespoon of sesame oil (canola oil will do),...

Girl (Crush) of the month: Blake Lively
I finally watched the two February episodes of Gossip Girl I had missed. I’m not entirely happy with the writers right now -sometimes, I even think: “This isn’t good, please let me write for you, and I’ll show you!”. I love the show and I don’t want to sound arrogant, but a lot happens in it that upsets me. Starting with Dan and Blair’s...

“May the odds be ever in your favor.”
– I decided to use The Hunger Games catchphrase as an encouragement from now on. It’s appropriate to cheer someone up and show your support. My Mom left for a big presentation at work today, and sometimes her workplace can be reminiscent of an arena, so I served her the phrase. She didn’t...

Play it to the Beet!
This delicious beets salad is also the easiest thing to make. Just slice beets thinly. Arrange the slices on a plate, chop parsley on it. Thinly slice cheese, such as Parmigiano, Pecorino or Cantal on it. For the dressing, blend 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 1 tablespoon of Balsamic vinegar, a pinch of salt, a pinch of freshly ground pepper, a teaspoon of honey. Dress your salad and enjoy!

Just Thoughts
Okay, so I’m nowhere near bedtime, but I happen to have thoughts when wide awake too! This also happens to be my 100th post, so I thought I might discuss important stuff. Or at least, stuff that’s important to me. Don’t worry, though. A shallower post about fashion and what VIPs wore this week will follow. Anyhow, we’ll start with a quote. If I had a son he’d look like...

“I went and saw it with a friend and she was like: “Who are you trying out for?...”
– And she sure can! Rooney Mara (who else?) about auditioning for the part of Lisbeth. It took more than two months of auditions and no-one else could have been better as The Girl. She is The Girl. And I couldn’t be more in love with The Girl!!!

More Bedtime Thoughts
“My head is full” “It’s called thinking. Just go with it!” (Meredith Grey in Grey’s Pilot) By the way, I still haven’t caught up with Grey’s. Or Glee. Or Gossip Girl. Yet. I went to the movies last night and, I actually saw another movie. It did involve a British Daniel. But his name is Radcliffe, of Harry Potter fame. It was weird. I kind of...

Cover Girl of the Month: Hollywood Vanities!
Besides Fitzgerald and Faulkner, I also read a lot of magazines. I wouldn’t skip a meal to buy Vogue, like Carrie did when she first came to the City. But my passion for glossy covers and glamorous girls certainly is expensive: the trip from the US make my Glamour and Cosmopolitan a luxury. So, I thought I could share this pricy hobby once every three months with you! My favorite...

Hummus Recipe
Hummus is a creamy treat and, better yet, it’s good for you. You can have it with pita chips or raw carrot sticks; but in any case, without guilt! 2 (15.5-ounce) cans no-salt-added chickpeas, rinsed and drained  2 garlic cloves, crushed  1/2 cup water 1/4 cup tahini (sesame seed paste) 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice  2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil  3/4...

Other Bedtime Thoughts
There is plenty on my mind tonight… First, I can’t understand what happened to that “38-year-old unidentified, married with two children, veteran United States Army Staff Sergeant” who killed at least sixteen civilians, including nine children, leaving five other civilians wounded in the villages of Alkozai and Najeeban in Afghanistan. War is terrible, terrorism is even worse and being a...

Eat, Have fun with you Friends, Love
Last night we celebrated my friend Liv’s 25th Birthday. It was so much fun and those too rare moments I share with my besties are pure delight to me so I cherish them. We caught up, we laughed and we ate the delicious couscous Liv cooked for us. I brought appetizers.          To make this quick Creamy Tuna Spread, combine a box of canned tuna with 2 tablespoons of low-fat heavy cream, 1...

“I told you she was skilled at oral.”
– A professor to my RA, after I presented them my Research Paper on how American TV shows mirror and influence society. I’m not entirely sure there wasn’t an innuendo in there. Anyways, it’s true I kind of did great. I think.

Where did all the Gentlemen go?
Today is International Women’s Day! And there was a time where men were gentlemen. They wore hats and had some class. It belongs to the days of yore though, and I’m not being nostalgic. I’m not saying I want men to open doors for me and stand up when I leave the table. I can open my own doors -thank you, and I don’t need a table full of men to make my...

Bedtime thoughts
Bedtime thoughts are those thoughts crowding your mind just before you go to sleep. Or do they only happen to me? They have no particular logic and you would really rather sleep, but you can’t help thinking. Maybe it’s because we live lives so full and busy, we have millions thoughts left to think in the night. Here’s an excerpt of those that came to me last night. “Talk...

Gift Batch
I must have Southern blood, because I just can’t be an empty-handed guest -and I feel awful the rare occasions it happened to me. I love baking Gingersnaps when I’m invited: they make the whole house smell delicious and they’re a crowd-pleaser so you’re sure to be asked back. The recipe is Martha Stewart’s and can be found on her website. Yield Makes 36...
